Ockenden Solar Farm, Battery Bunds

Client: Equans

The largest solar farm in Europe built on top of a landfill site is now generating renewable electricity. The Ockendon solar farm on the outskirts of London is the third largest solar farm in the UK, with 108,000 solar modules covering 173 acres.

Its owner, the waste company Veolia, expects the solar array to generate enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of 15,000 homes.

Equans commissioned fifteen Solar FastBase® solutions for this project to eliminate in-situ works, reduce carbon footprint, increase site safety and ensure programme efficiencies. Manufactured in Banagher Precast Concrete’s facility in Norfolk, the 12-tonne units were transported, two per load, just 86 miles to site and installed during delivery in a matter of minutes.
